Debate: Waterpark vs. Presentation

The Waterpark College debate team drew in their debate against the Presentation on the topic of "The Bebo Generation cares little for the Developing World". The team consisted of Chris Kervick (captain), Tony Finn, Daragh Mangan and Ryan Laffan.

Engineering week

The week of Feb 9th, 2009 is Engineering week with activities being organised in schools and colleges all over Ireland. TY will take part on Thursday and Fifth Year Physics class will attend a lecture on Tuesday.


Guest careers speakers

Tomorrow Mr. Tom Kelly of Teagasc will speak to Fifth Years on the subject of careers in Agriculture and the food industry in general. This is the third of a series of talks being given on different career areas which is being facilitated by the Parents Council. Previous speakers have come from the Garda Siochana and from FAS on the subject of apprenticeships. Next up is Mr. Stan Power from the Atheneum Hotel in Waterford.


Incoming First Year Entrance Assessment

The entrance assessment for First Year 2009-2010 takes place next Saturday, February 28th running from 9:00 to 12:30. Students should be in attendance 15mins beforehand with pens, pencil, eraser, ruler ... Waterpark thanks parents and student for choosing Waterpark College - we think you've made the right choice!


ALL IRELAND SCHOLARSHIP

2008 Waterpark College Leaving Cert student Justin Schwering has been awarded an All-Ireland Scholarship. An academically gifted student and popular with his peers, Justin chose to go on to study Commerce at UCC.
For the next 11 years and possibly longer, 120 students from the 32 counties of Ireland will receive €6,750 per annum for the duration of their undergraduate studies. The award is joint-funded by JP Mc Manus and the State with the Limerick millionaire providing the bulk of the money to the tune of €24 million.
The awards will be presented in the University of Limerick on Saturday the 7th of March.

CONCERN KNOW YOUR WORLD QUIZ

On the 9th of March Waterpark will take part in the semi-final of a national quiz organised by Concern. Waterpark got through the first round and now there are 40 schools left. Waterpark scored within the top 20 in round 1 so the omens are good for progression! The team is made up of Conor Madden, Conor Lowry, Robbie Cotter, Kieran Mangan, Feargal Turner and Stephen Geraghty. Schools will be there from all over the country and it will take place in the Carmelite Centre in Dublin
