About The Junior Cycle

In First Year, all students study the full range of subjects on offer. They study the core examination subjects of English, Irish, Mathematics, Business Studies, History and Geography. A taster programme runs from the start of First Year until Autumn of First Year. Each student is given the opportunity to sample the following nine subjects:

Art, French, German, Home Economics, Music, Materials Technology (Wood), Science, Technical Graphics, Technology

Students then choose three of these subjects to study going forward. Therefore, no choices must be made prior to enrolment. This allows students to make an informed decision regarding their options for Junior Cycle.

Our classes are formed based on mixed ability. We find this brings a benefit to all students in each class and contributes to Waterpark College’s excellent academic achievements. Higher and Ordinary level classes are formed in Irish, Mathematics and English at different stages throughout the Junior Cycle programme.

There is an appropriate emphasis on wellbeing, with students assigned almost 400 hours of tuition in this area over the course of their Junior Cycle programme.

Students also take the following non-examination subjects which are a vital part of our programme.

Religious Education, Civic Social and Political Education (C.S.P.E.), Physical Education (P.E.), Social Personal and Health Education (including Relationships and Sexuality Education), and Wellbeing.

About Transition Year

Transition Year is an optional programme that bridges the gap between the Junior Cycle and the Leaving Certificate. It is hugely popular in Waterpark College with the vast majority opting for the programme. T.Y. encourages personal, social and academic development and actively promotes independent learning and thinking. The programme offers taster modules of the subjects we offer at Leaving Certificate level which allows for a more informed subject choice. T.Y. encourages the development of a wide range of transferable critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills which prepares students for the Leaving Certificate, further study, and the world of work.

The Leaving Certificate 2020 –Calculated Grades Student Portal.

Calculated Grades Student Portal has been developed to support the delivery of calculated grades.

This portal will open at 10 AM on Tuesday 26 May and close at 10 PM on Thursday 28 May. Leaving Certificate students must complete the Registration Process. In addition to this Leaving Certificate Students must confirm their Subject Levels before 10 p.m. on Thursday 28 May.

To register students will need their Examination Number and PIN. The PIN will be the first 4 digits of the students PPSN.
