The Cara Programme consists of twenty-four handpicked Transition Year students who are both mentors and role models for our first-year students. They undergo an application process and a formal interview to be selected for the role. A core value of the ERST and our school ethos is nurturing and caring for the development of each unique child in every possible way as they immerse themselves in school life in Waterpark College. Pastoral care is at the forefront of everything we do, and our Cara Facilitators have put this programme in place to make the transition from primary to secondary school as smooth as possible for our new entrants. It is a programme based on respect which allows Transition Year students the opportunity to mentor first Year students and to take responsibility for the happiness, well-being and safety of all those who share a school environment. It also gives Cara Leaders the opportunity to develop their interpersonal skills, undergo personal development, become assertive, time management skills and active listening skills.
The goal of the programme is that if a first-year student should experience difficulties or anxieties of any kind, that they can turn to their Cara leader and find in them understanding, respect, advice and assistance.
The following are our 2025-2026 CARAs
